Our Story

A story shaped by many hands.

Vayra began with a question — what if the things we live with were made to stay? This is the story of how that question became a studio, a family of makers, and a way of building a home.

Not louder. Just truer. From the very first piece, Vayra has been about finding objects with a pulse — and giving them a place in the way the world lives now.

Where Vayra began
Where it began

A workshop, and a want

It started in a small workshop, surrounded by clay dust and the sound of a wheel turning. We kept noticing the same thing: the objects that moved us most were never the newest ones. They were the ones that had been made slowly, by someone who cared.

So we set out to work with those people — the potters, the metal-beaters, the wood turners whose craft had outlived every trend. Vayra was never meant to be a brand. It was meant to be a way of keeping that craft alive.

The journey

How we grew

2006

The first pieces

A single workshop, a handful of makers, and a belief that things made by hand belong in every home.

2011

A family of makers

We expanded our circle of artisans across India, learning each material on its own terms — clay, brass, wood, glass.

2016

Beyond borders

Vayra pieces began travelling to homes around the world, carrying Indian craft into new rooms and new lives.

2021

The studio takes shape

Our material studios were founded — dedicated spaces where each craft could be honed, taught, and passed on.

Today

The same question

Hundreds of pieces later, we still ask what we asked at the start: what deserves to be kept? And we still make it by hand.

What we learned

The beauty of the imperfect

Somewhere along the way, we stopped trying to make everything the same. A machine can give you two identical bowls. A pair of hands cannot — and that difference, we realised, is the whole point.

The small irregularities of the handmade are not flaws to hide. They are the signature of a person, a place, a moment. They are what turn an object into something you keep.
